Mehrere Berichte im vergangenen Jahr deuteten an, dass LG der Display-Produzent hinter dem berüchtigten Apple HDTV sein wird, bislang gibt es aber keine eindeutigen Beweise dafür.
LG und Apple führen schon länger gute Geschäftsbeziehungen: Die iPod Touch und iPhone Retina Displays und einige iPad Displays kommen von LG. 2009 wurde zudem ein 500 Millionen Dollar Investmentplan zwischen den beiden Konzernen abgeschlossen, ganz gezielt für LG Displays.
Ein möglicher Konkurrent von LG, Samsung, baut zwar tolle OLED-Displays, ist aber weltweit in Patentstreitigkeiten mit Apple verwickelt.
So viel zur aktuellen Lage – nun die guten Neuigkeiten:
LG kündigte für die diesjährige Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, kurz CES, ein neues OLED Display mit stolzen 55 Zoll Diagonale, einem nur 4 mm dicken Rahmen und der halben Dicke des iPhone 4S an. Zusätzliche Angaben wie “1.000 mal schneller als LED/LCD Displays” und “Unendliches Kontrastverhältnis” lassen einem schon jetzt das Wasser im Mund zusammenlaufen.
Ob LG tatsächlich die neuen Apple HDTVs bauen wird? Es bleibt zu hoffen.

Wie die US-amerikanische Recording Academy bekannt gibt, sollen im Rahmen der 2012 Special Merit Awards große Namen wie die Allman Brothers Band und Diana Ross gekrönt werden. Auch Steve Jobs erhält einen Preis, und zwar für seine “herausragenden (nicht-musikalischen) Beiträge für die Musikindustrie” (engl. “outstanding contributions to the industry in a nonperforming capacity”).
Die Preisverleihung findet am 11. Februar, während der Grammy Week, statt.
