App geht’s! Buchtipp + Gewinnspiel

<iframe src=”tel:1-408-555-5555”>
<iframe src=”skype://14085555555?call">
Third party developers, including developers who create custom applications for enterprise use, need to realize their URL handlers can be invoked by a user landing upon a malicious website and not assume that the user authorized it. Apple also needs to step up and allow the registration of URL Schemes that can instruct Safari to throw an authorization request prior to yanking the user away into the application.

Sicherheitslücke in PayPal App – Update empfohlen!
The PayPal hole results from the app's failure to verify the digital certificate for the payment service's website. Such certificates function as electronic ID cards that let a user's device know a website is legitimate.
Without that confirmation, a hacker could electronically step between a user and PayPal, pretend to be the PayPal website and gather usernames and passwords. The hacker would need to be in the same physical location as the user or have gained access to the same Wi-Fi network.

httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ohhf0p8CFM&feature=player_embedded
As you can see, this ad directs an iPhone user to place their smartphone over an empty space on the page. Doing so prompts the iAd process to kick in, and you get to watch a little video clip which explains the static picture inside the magazine.
“This is one of the first ads of this kind that I’ve seen, where you see a real consideration of the user journey. They haven’t just added on an element to integrate with mobiles, but have actually built it into the story of the ad itself,” notes The Next Web."

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocZcMlz4Unk&feature=player_embedded
Einige zusätzliche Infos zur Emulator-App:
1. At this time, they can’t release a binary of the emulator, because it currently requires the Newton ROM image to be compiled in. Obviously, nobody has the right to distribute the ROM image except for Apple. The plan is to change things around so you can dump the ROM from your own Newton, and side-load it into the app via iTunes’ file exchange feature.
2. The emulator is a bit slow and occasionally glitchy. It runs at maybe half the speed of a real Newton. But I hear there are a lot of optimizations yet to be made, which should vastly improve the situation.
3. It’s not completely tied into the iOS hardware yet — for example, a physical iPad keyboard won’t work, and it doesn’t yet read the time and date from the iPad, and so on. The to-do list is long, but the progress is exciting.
4. There is probably not even a remote chance that they will let this on the App Store.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmTGx98BxTI&feature=player_embedded

"There will be a transitional period for the next 10 days where users can purchase/download apps and licenses in Rock. After that, users will use their Cydia Store login to retrieve their purchased apps. The large majority of themes/apps from Rock will be moved over to Cydia (most are already there right now)."

The App Store? has revolutionized the way mobile applications are developed and distributed. With over 250,000 apps and 6.5 billion downloads, the App Store has become the world’s largest mobile application platform and App Store developers have earned over one billion dollars from the sales of their apps.
We are continually trying to make the App Store even better. We have listened to our developers and taken much of their feedback to heart. Based on their input, today we are making some important changes to our iOS Developer Program license in sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2 and 3.3.9 to relax some restrictions we put in place earlier this year.
In particular, we are relaxing all restrictions on the development tools used to create iOS apps, as long as the resulting apps do not download any code. This should give developers the flexibility they want, while preserving the security we need.
In addition, for the first time we are publishing the App Store Review Guidelines to help developers understand how we review submitted apps. We hope it will make us more transparent and help our developers create even more successful apps for the App Store.
The App Store is perhaps the most important milestone in the history of mobile software. Working together with our developers, we will continue to surprise and delight our users with innovative mobile apps.
Zum vollständigen Artikel: Statement by Apple on App Store Review Guidelines
9to5Mac hat indes seine 9 Lieblings-Kriterien herausgesucht und kommentiert:
1: “Apps with metadata that mentions the name of any other mobile platform will be rejected” – No Android for you!
2: “Apps that artificially increase the number of impressions or click-throughs of ads will be rejected” – Don’t be greedy.
3: “App user interfaces that mimic any iPod interface will be rejected” – Who makes that Remote app that looks just like iPod.app?
4: “Apps that alter the functions of standard switches, such as the Volume Up/Down and Ring/Silent switches, will be rejected” – Camera+!
5: “Apps containing “rental” content or services that expire after a limited time will be rejected” – iTunes TV show and movie rentals FTW!
6: “Apps that encourage users to use an Apple Device in a way that may cause damage to the device will be rejected” – Don’t break me!
7: “Apps that include games of Russian roulette will be rejected” – No comment.
8: “Apps that contain user generated content that is frequently pornographic (ex “Chat Roulette” apps) will be rejected” – Until there’s an API to keep clothes on.
…And how can I forget my personal all-time favorite: “We have over 250,000 apps in the App Store. We don’t need any more Fart apps.” – Hi, Phillip!

Google Goggles kommt aufs iPhone
“We’re working on an iPhone version, and hope to have it out by the end of the year,” David Petrou, a Google staff engineer working on the Goggles project, told his keynote audience at Monday’s Hot Chips conference at Stanford University in California.
A web app for Goggles, Petrou said, isn’t currently an option, even with HTML5?s enhanced media-capture abilities. “There is a new part of HTML5,” he said, “that allows you to acquire an image from a camera. And that’s really nice and really useful, but we don’t think it’s sufficient for something like Goggles that needs very fine control over the camera.
