Ende Juli musste Apple in einer Presseaussendung alle Fans des weißen iPhone 4 auf später vertrösten: Unvorhergesehene Herausforderungen bei der Produktion des weißen Modells hätten es notwendig gemacht, das Erscheinungsdatum nach hinten zu verschieben. „Later this year“ war die recht ungenaue Angabe auf die Frage, wann das iPhone 4 auch in Weiß erhältlich sein würde.
2 Monate später gibt es eine neue, knappe Email-Antwort von Steve Jobs auf die Frage eines Fans:

I've been saving up money to buy the new iphone 4. I want the white one but Apple said it won't be available until later this year. I know you must be asked this question hundreds of times a day but do you think we can expect to get the white iphone for xmas?
