Für satte 8,5 Milliarden Dollar hat Microsoft soeben den VoIP-Dienst Skype übernommen:
Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) and Skype Global today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Microsoft will acquire Skype, the leading Internet communications company, for $8.5 billion in cash from the investor group led by Silver Lake. The agreement has been approved by the boards of directors of both Microsoft and Skype.
Skype ist eine der führenden Firmen im Bereich VoIP, und erreicht mit kostenlosen Programmen/Apps für Mac OS, Windows, iOS, Android u.v.m. über 30 Millionen gleichzeitig eingeloggte Benutzer. Auch nach der Übernahme durch Microsoft sollen alle bisher unterstützten Plattformen weiter bedient werden.
