Vor zwei Tagen gab es ein Leak bei AT&T, in dem eine AT&T Präsentation über den Ablauf des 4G/LTE-Starts an die Öffentlichkeit gelangte. Besonders ein Abschnitt erschien dabei interessant, weil er vage Hinweise auf die nächste iPad-Generation andeutete:
Pre-LTE scenarios. Testing will include iPad new activations HLS using the new rate plan, as well as a regression on netbooks and dongles. During validation E2E execution should ensure all functionality new and current is still functioning properly by validating account set up, provisioning, usage and notifications.
•SBP ST scenarios. Testing will include activations, add stacked plans, add international plans, perform customer service functions using the LTE devices. Testing will validate device is being provisioned and the proper policy from PCRF are being enforced. Usage should be added to decrement the account when needed in order to show RTDUNS are functioning properly.
Wie sich aber bei genauerem Nachlesen herausgestellt hat, ist das keineswegs ein Hinweis auf ein LTE-fähiges iPad 3: Die folgenden Zeilen zeigen, dass AT&T lediglich vor dem Start alle iPad-User (und damit der via iPad verursachte Traffic) auf ein neues Abrechnungssystem übersiedelt werden:
AT&T is migrating its‘ iPad users (and actually has) to this new data billing infrastructure before its‘ LTE launch – hence, „pre-LTE“. A lot of the information in the leak revolves around the core network – billing integration, new load balancers and other hardware in a datacenter (Bothell, Washington to be exact), as well as some information about their first LTE network deployment (in Redmond and surrounding areas) to start in July as a test LTE network.
Diese „Entwarnung“ bedeutet allerdings nur, dass AT&T (höchstwahrscheinlich) noch keine konkreten Informationen zum iPad 3 besitzt, und im Speziellen, ob das iPad 3 LTE nutzen kann oder nicht.
