Vodafone Deutschland: iPhone 4S mit Vertrag ohne SIM-Lock
Kurzmeldung: Via Twitter hat Vodafone Deutschland jetzt bestätigt, dass auch iPhone 4S, die beim Provider in Zusammenhang mit einem Vertrag erworben werden, keinen SIM-Lock (auch Netlock) bekommen:

Mit Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 für Mac hat das iPhone Dev Team nun den ersten "offiziellen" Jailbreak für iOS 5 herausgebracht. Mit dieser Version ist es nicht mehr nötig, die Firmware händisch herunterzuladen. Einfach ausführen und jailbreaken.
Wichtig ist dieses Update vor allem für die Unlocker unter uns: Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 erlaubt durch die Erstellung von Custom IPSW-Dateien (über "Extras - Custom IPSW") das Updaten der Firmware ohne Baseband-Upgrade ("baseband preservation mode").
Damit funktioniert sowohl der ultrasn0w-Unlock als auch der Gevey-Unlock.
The new "Custom IPSW" button on the Extras screen will create a custom IPSW without the baseband update for 4.3.3 or 5.0gm (iPhone3GS and iPhone4 only, for now). Remember not to accidentally restore to the stock IPSW after you create the custom one! The custom one begins with NO_BB_ (for "no baseband").
You must enter "Pwned DFU" mode before trying to use the NO_BB_ IPSW with iTunes (and your hosts file cannot be pointing to Cydia's servers due to the new blob nonce mechanism they're using in iOS5).
Für Windows Benutzer bleibt in redsn0w im Moment noch der Extra-Schritt des Downlaods erhalten (0.9.9b4, "Extras - Select IPSW") - zumindest, bis das Dev Team "nach weiteren Tests" redsn0w 0.9.9b5 veröffentlicht.
Alternativ kann aber das Tool sn0wbreeze 2.8b8 verwendet werden - auch dieses Tool schützt vor einem ungewollten Baseband-Update.

In Verbindung mit ultrasn0w1.2.4 sind damit alle Weichen für bereits entsperrte iPhones gestellt.

16. Oktober: Steve Jobs Day
Der Gouverneur Kaliforniens hat via Twitter den 16. Oktober als "Steve Jobs Day" ausgerufen:
“This Sunday will be Steve Jobs Day in the State of California.”
Ebenfalls heute gibt es eine geschlossene Gedenkveranstaltung von Apple für "prominente Silicon Valley Persönlichkeiten", am Gelände der Stanford University - also am Ort von Steve Jobs berühmter Stanford Abschluss-Rede.
