Der neue 64bit-A7 Prozessor des iPhone 5S stellt die aktuelle Speerspitze in Sachen mobile Prozessoren in Smartphones dar. Damit dieser Leistungsvorteil auch genützt wird, hat sich Apple heute an Entwickler gerichtet und diese gebeten, angesichts des bevorstehenden Launches am kommenden Freitag, vermehrt 64-bit kompatible Apps in den AppStore zu laden.

In der Notiz erklärt Apple den Entwicklern, dass ab sofort 64-bit Apps und Games zum AppStore hinzu gefügt werden können.

You can submit 64-bit apps for today that take advantage of the power of iPhone 5s. Xcode can build your app with both 32-bit and 64-bit binaries included so it works across all devices running iOS 7. If you wish to continue to support then you will need to build for 32-bit only. Next month we will be making changes that will allow you create a single app binary that supports 32-bit on iOS 6, as well as 32-bit and 64-bit on iOS 7.

Auffallend an der Meldung ist die Tatsache, dass momentan 32-bit Apps getrennt für iOS 6 und 64-bit für iOS 7 programmiert werden müssen. Es scheint keine Abwärtskompatibilität zu geben.

Das heißt, iOS 7 optimierte Apps dürften auf iOS 6 nicht laufen. Neue Meldungen, dass iOS 7.1 bereits in der Entwicklung sei und in sehr naher Zukunft veröffentlicht werden wird, deuten jedoch darauf hin, dass Apple mit Hochdruck an einer Lösung des Problems arbeiten dürfte.
