Seit nun gut mehr als zwei Jahren ist bekannt, dass US-Unternehmen Apple seinen Campus in Cupertino erweitern möchte. Erstmals vorgestellt wurden die Pläne im Juni 2011 durch Apple-Mitgründer Steve Jobs, der die Pläne dem Stadtrat der Stadt Cupertino vorlegte. Da der Bürgermeister von dem Campus 2 – auch als „Raumschiff“ bekannt – sehr angetan war, begannen die ersten Schritte. Nun taucht das 3D-Modell zum Campus auf
Das 3D-Modell zeigt, dass das Raumschiff der zentrale Punkt des gesamten Campus zu werden scheint. Neben Büros werden darin auch Keynotes und andere Events Platz finden, die Apple das gesamte Jahr über immer wieder abhält. Darüber hinaus sind ein Fitnessstudio, Parkhäuser, eine Solaranlage auf den Dächern und sehr viel „Grün“ geplant.
Den Redakteuren von TechCrunch ist passend dazu übrigens noch ein Schreiben des Apple-CFO Peter Oppenheimer in die Hände gefallen, welches sich an die Bewohner von Cupertino richtet. Darin werden die Anwohner um Unterstützung gebeten, denn am 15. Oktober setzt sich der Stadtrat zur finalen Beratung zusammen, um am 19. Oktober 2013 eine Entscheidung zu treffen. Mit der Genehmigung soll der erste Spatenstich erfolgen.

Dear Neighbor,
It's been a long journey since Steve Jobs first presented his vision for Apple Campus 2 to the Cupertino City Council in June 2011. As Steve said then, Apple has always been in Cupertino. It's been our headquarters and our home, and we want to remain and grow here.
A video of the presentation, posted on Cupertino's website, has received over 1,800,000 views worldwide. Since the initial presentation, we have reached out to the community in a number of ways, and we are truly humbled by the overwhelming support and many expressions of goodwill we have received. Thanks you.
We're now in the final stages of the permitting process, and a key meeting is fast approaching. The City Council meeting to consider the project is scheduled for October 15 at 5:00 p.m. It will be held at Cupertino Community Hall, 10350 Torre Avenue.
