Near Field Communications: iPhone 5 als iWallet?

Wie MacRumors berichtet, konnte Apple vor kurzem Benjamin Vigier als Produktmanager im Bereich "Mobile Commerce" gewinnen. Vigier ist als Experte in Sachen Near Field Communications (NFC) mit über 6 Jahren Erfahrung bekannt, der sich in den letzten Jahren intensiv mit neuen Bezahlsystemen (darunter mFoundry, PayPal mobile, Starbucks mobile Payments, ...) beschäftigte.

Most recently Vigier was product manager for mobile wallet, payment and NFC at US mobile payments specialist mFoundry. There he conceived and managed both the PayPal Mobile service and Starbucks' barcode-based mobile payments service and was also responsible for the development of mobile wallet applications for two top US mobile network operators and an NFC wallet application for a top three US bank.

NFC beschreibt Technologien, die Informationen über äußerst kurze Distanzen von ca. 10 cm übertragen - so wie etwa bei RFID. Einsatzgebiete sind z.B. mobiles Ticketing, mobile Bezahlsysteme oder interaktive Werbung.
Bei Apple interessiert man sich schon seit längerem für elektronische Bezahlsysteme und Near Field Communications. Apple's Patentanträge aus diesem Themenbereich beschreiben sogar das iPhone als elektronische Geldbörse zum Bezahlen in Restaurants, oder als mobiles Flugticket.

RFID-/NFC-Fans sehen die neue Stellenbesetzung als Hinweis dafür, dass das iPhone 5 endlich NFC-fähig wird.

Verizon iPhone mit schnellerem Prozessor, größerem Display und interner Antenne?

Verizon iPhone 4 Spezifikationen Zum Gerücht des CDMA-fähigen iPhone für Verizon (US) kursiert zur Zeit eine neue Meldung durch die Blogs: Die Rede ist von einem verbesserten iPhone 4 mit 1,2 GHz A4-Chip der nächsten Generation, 3,7-Zoll Retina Display (also etwas größer als das 3,5 Zoll des aktuellen iPhone 4) und komplett ins Interne verlagerte Antenne.

Entweder handelt es sich hier um ein äußerst unglaubwürdiges Verizon-Gerücht - besonders wenn das das für Anfang 2011 berüchtigte iPhone sein soll - oder die Informationen beschreiben wirklich das für Juni 2011 erwartete iPhone 5, das gleichzeitig auch das erste Verizon-kompatible iPhone sein wird.

iPhone 5: Verfrühter Start bereits im Jänner 2011?

Kaum ist das iPhone 4 in den Händen der Apple-Fans, kommen auch schon die ersten Gerüchte zum iPhone 5.
iLounge berichtet inmitten einer ganzen Reihe von Meldungen davon, dass die nächste iPhone-Generation (nennen wir sie vorläufig einfach einmal "iPhone 5") bereits im kommenden Jänner präsentiert werden könnte:

New iPhone. According to our source—and we have to say that we find this part hard to believe—Apple is pushing up the release date of the fifth-generation iPhone to early 2011 (as soon as January) because of the antenna issues with the iPhone 4.
It’s unknown whether this will be a repackaging of iPhone 4 components in a different shell or something more substantial. We reiterate: it’s hard to believe. But as with so many seemingly far-fetched early reports, it’s not impossible.

Selbst iLounge hält das Gerücht für zweifelhaft. Als Reaktion auf das Antennagate/Death Grip Problem wäre ein früherer Start aber doch zumindest denkbar.
